OWENSBORO, Ky. — Significant rainfall is expected later this week. Spectrum News 1 meteorologists say areas could see anywhere from three to nine inches of rain Wednesday through Sunday.

To prepare before the rain, the Daviess County Emergency Management Agency is making sandbags available to the public.

The agency is asking for volunteers to help the sandbags on Tuesday, April 1 from 9 a.m. until noon. Anyone 15 or older can help fill the sandbags. Emergency Management just asks that volunteers bring a shovel and wear gloves.

Sandbags will be ready for pickup on Tuesday, April 1 from 9 a.m. until noon and again from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. CT. There is a limit of 100 sandbags per address. Proof of Daviess County residency is required with a mailed bill or statement matching the driver’s license.   

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Wednesday, April 2 from 1 p.m. CDT until Sunday, April 6 at 7 a.m. CDT.

Residents should be careful of flooding at rivers, creeks, streams and low-lying locations. Creeks and streams could rise out of their banks.
