MIDWAY, Ky. — It’s a blanket of white across central Kentucky that seemingly looks like it might never end, making some wonder what the next move should be to keep everyone safe.

What You Need To Know

  • It's a snowy scene in Midway, Kentucky, in Woodford County

  • The snow storm has pretty much shuttered all the city's businesses, bringing daily life of residents to a screeching halt

  • Grayson Vandegrift, mayor of Midway, said plowing roads is a top priority

  • Some roads throughout the region are barely passable

"Well, right now we're doing everything we can," said Grayson Vandegrift, mayor of Midway in Woodford County. "It's not very easy."

The snow storm has pretty much shuttered all the city's businesses, bringing daily life of residents to a screeching halt.

"We are plowing roads right now, which is hard to keep up with, and we have been coordinated with our emergency response team," Vandegrift said.

"Our biggest concern is, what happens when this turns to ice?"

Roads throughout the region are barely passable. Even vehicles with four-wheel drive are finding that getting around is a challenge.

"It's too dangerous to go out of the neighborhood, really," said Braxton Dare, Midway resident. "I mean, roads are just dangerous."

Shoveling the snow has become an endless task as what gets removed is immediately replaced. But for others, the big snow means time for a little rare winter outdoor fun.

"Just trying to keep it low speeds, keep it controlled, keep it in four-wheel drive and not try and do anything dangerous or stupid to hurt myself or anybody else," said Colton Tackett, Midway resident.

It's good advice as residents wait for the storm to pass.

"Just look out for your neighbors right now," Vandegrift said. "I think we'll get through this together, just like we've other emergency situations. We'll get through this one."
