BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Local glassblower Jackson Hawkins, who has traveled around the world to showcase his skills, stopped by his hometown of Bowling Green to teach others on the art while promoting entrepreneurship and creativity.
"When it comes to my own work, I do a lot of pattern work and installation," Hawkins said.
Hawkins stopped by Briarwood Elementary, showcasing the art of glassblowing to students.
“The fact that the school was interested in giving this opportunity to kids is pretty phenomenal," he said.
Susan McCloud, Briarwood Elementary art teacher, said it's pivotal for students to learn in a hands-on way, offering new levels of creativity.
“Anytime a child can experience something hands on and see it versus talking about it or watching a video about it, it just brings it to life," McCloud said.
While equipment may be expensive and the process can be complex, Hawkins said he hopes his teachings will spark an interest in art among young Kentuckians.
Hawkins received his Master of Fine Arts from Temple University and Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Louisville.
