TAMPA, Fla. — The Sunshine Skyway Bridge is now open to all traffic after conditions caused by Hurricane Idalia have calmed down.
The fishing piers and rest areas remain closed at this time.
The bridge closed early Wednesday as a result of high winds which reached 50 mph, according to officials with Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The bridge typically closes when winds reach speeds of 40 mph.
As conditions worsened Wednesday as Hurricane Idalia moved north in the Gulf of Mexico, water and winds combined to also close the Howard Frankland Bridge and the eastbound lanes of the Courtney Campbell Causeway.
