A central Kentucky doctor is reflecting and sharing how the community has inspired him and helped carry him through the challenging time. Wednesday is Doctor’s Day 2022.
“We have been overwhelmed a lot of times. But to tell you the truth, all the health care workers in the last two, three years, did more than their 100%,” said Dr. Roshan Pais, M.D. who practices at Baptist Health Richmond.
Dr. Pais said the patient’s families and the community have inspired him during the turbulent times.
“Not only that, the families and patients they helped us. It was tough time for them. But one important thing I realized with every family that I met, how much they appreciated us, and that was heart-wrenching for me,” Dr. Pais said.
This year marks Dr. Pais’s 27 years of being a doctor.
“What I’ve learned is to give good care,” Dr. Pais said. “You have to be a good, healthy, doctor.”
They are balancing taking care of patients and their own mental and physical health.
“What I have realized through the pandemic years is that we need to give good care to ourselves,” Dr. Pais said. “Be happy and resilient. We normally are resilient. But sometimes things can be worse, like the pandemic, but we have to be taking care of ourselves to give good care to patients and to their families.”
He’s practicing medicine with over 180 other doctors at Baptist Health Richmond.
The hospital and Madison County Judge Reagan Taylor honored all doctors Wednesday for their dedication to the profession with a proclamation.
“Unfortunately, this COVID, last two years, almost broke our back,” Dr. Pais said, as he accepted the proclamation on behalf of all his colleagues. “But with the help of all the nurses, our administrative team, and all the primary care physicians and every health care worker and non-health care worker in the hospital, we managed to overcome.”
They’re pushing through the hurdles, with the tremendous help and support from the generosity of the surrounding community.
“I like them praying for us and that really puts chills in me and gives me goosebumps when families tell us that thank you for what you’re doing,” Dr. Pais said.
Baptist Health Hospital systems employs over 750 physicians. Each hospital hosted a dedication honoring doctors on Wednesday.
