LEXINGTON, Ky. — Many parents say it takes a village to birth a child. In fact, that’s the motto of the Bluegrass Birth Collective.
They help moms connect to resources, from lactation to postpartum and anywhere in-between, all under one roof.

"I’m Rachael, I am 22 weeks," said Rachael Boyd, sharing with a group of other moms the challenges in her week. "I have trouble with insomnia right now. Just kind of waking up not being able to stay asleep."
The group is made of six women. They meet to practice prenatal yoga.
"So my first trimester I slept like the best I’ve ever slept in my entire adult life. And then all of a sudden, I’ve just kind of been waking up a lot and not being able to go right back to sleep," Rachael said.
It’s her first pregnancy she explains, while doing a cat pose.
"I have been here quite a few times over the past few months. I started probably about I would say about 15 weeks, I’m not sure," Rachael said.
She drives anywhere from 30 to 40 minutes from Winchester to Lexington to practice prenatal yoga.
"My first class was with just me and Keisha and I just knew that I had found a place that would listen to me and my concerns," Rachael said.
It's something not offered in the area she lives.
"Sometimes when you go to appointments, it's just focused on baby, and kind of how do you feel it's really all it goes here. that all that happens in your prenatal appointments at your doctor. but when you come to Baby Moon," Rachael said.
Baby Moon is just one of the services at the Bluegrass Birth Collective.
Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist Ashley Plowman is one of three co-founders.
"When a woman goes through pregnancy and postpartum, we need to spend a little time rehabbing those [pelvic] muscles," Plowman said.
Her office is adjacent to the yoga studio.
"Motherhood is hard enough. So having everything in one location seemed like a great idea," Plowman said.
They offer a hub of resources ranging from lactation, diet, doula, counseling, photography, fitness, and physical therapy services, all centered on new moms in central Kentucky.
"A lot of people don't want to say out loud how isolating motherhood can be, because it's supposed to be this joyous experience," Plowman said.
But Plowman said motherhood in ways can be difficult.
"And I know that if something required more than one or two steps for me to do at that point, I probably wasn't going to do it. And I think by having everything in one location, we're making it more accessible for women," Plowman said, as they create a space and a community of support along with a plan for birth to welcome life.
"Being in a space with other people going through the same thing is really comforting," Rachael said.
The Bluegrass Birth Collective also offers car seat education along with music therapy classes for babies and parents.
