ANAHEIM, Calif. — Disneyland fans waiting for the release and debut of MagicBand+ will have to wait a little longer.

What You Need To Know

  • Disneyland officials announced that the much-anticipated MagicBand+ will come to Disneyland sometime this fall

  • The MagicBand+ is the upgraded version of MagicBand, which came out in 2013 and is exclusive for Walt Disney World and some Disney Cruise lines

  • The MagicBand+ can store a person's theme park ticket, allow guests to check in at Lightning Lane entrances and link a photo pass

  • Unlike Walt Disney World, the MagicBand+ at Disneyland would not allow wearers to be able to tap to pay or unlock hotel rooms

A year after announcing that MagicBand would finally come to the Disneyland Resort, officials Tuesday released a teaser of the much-anticipated upgraded wearable technology that should arrive sometime this year.

The upgraded version was released at Walt Disney World this past summer.

Disneyland officials say the wearable tech is coming to Anaheim sometime this fall. A Disneyland official did not give an official launch date.

"We are just saying this fall for right now," a Disneyland spokesperson wrote in an email to Spectrum News.

The MagicBand+ is the upgraded version of the MagicBand, which debuted in 2013 and was only available for guests at Walt Disney World and some Disney cruise lines.

The MagicBand+ is like a Disney version of a smartwatch. The wearable technology is worn on the wrist and comes in all types of Disney-styled designs.

Disneyland officials said the MagicBand+ offers wearers hands-free access and convenience as they stroll throughout the park.

Visitors won't need to dig into their pockets, wallets, purses or phones to look for or scan their theme park tickets. The MagicBand+ can store a wearer's ticket to the park, check-in at Lightning Lane entrances and link their photo pass. The photo would go directly into their Disneyland account.

On Tuesday, Disneyland officials added that the new tech could pair with a smartphone and release other features.

With the Disneyland mobile app, the MagicBand+ can personalize a wearer's park experience with unique light colors and haptic vibrations when watching a fireworks show or exploring Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.

The Disneyland spokesperson said that upon launch, unlike at Walt Disney World, Disneyland Resort wearers would not be able to tap to pay or unlock hotel rooms using MagicBand+.

Once MagicBand+ launches at Disneyland Resort, visitors would be able to use MagicBand+ purchased from Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort or shopDisney.

Disneyland officials said more details about the new wearable tech would come out soon.
