1. Ohtani hits solo HR in return to Japan, leading Dodgers' powerful offense to 6-3 win over the Cubs

Shohei Ohtani hit a solo homer in his return to the Tokyo Dome, Roki Sasaki threw three eventful innings in his big-league debut and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Chicago Cubs 6-3 on Wednesday night to sweep the two-game series in Japan.

Kiké Hernández hit a two-run homer, and Tommy Edman added a solo shot. Ohtani's homer in the fifth barely cleared the right-center fence, and the call was reviewed by umpires before being confirmed, giving the Dodgers a 6-2 lead.

Sasaki gave up one run and one hit while striking out three, but also walked five batters, including a free pass that forced in a run. Landon Knack (1-0) got the win, pitching two scoreless innings of relief.

The Dodgers were without Freddie Freeman (ribs) and Mookie Betts (illness) for a second straight game. Roberts is hopeful that Freeman and Betts will both be ready for the domestic season opener on March 27.

2. State AG Bonta warns of fake ICE officers and other immigration scams

State law enforcement officials Tuesday warned Californians to take steps to protect themselves amid new reports of individuals impersonating U.S. Immigrations and Custom Enforcement officers and other immigration scams.

In recent months, California Attorney General Rob Bonta has issued ways to help California immigrants better understand their rights and protections under the law and assist law enforcement, prosecutors and public institutions in complying with state law.

Bonta warned that as scammers and other bad actors seek to capitalize “on the fear and uncertainty created by the Trump administration’s racist rhetoric and destructive immigration policies,” Californians should know it is a crime to impersonate a federal officer. He said he wanted to encourage everyone to know their rights under the law and take steps to protect themselves from scams.

3. California home sales reach a 2-year high

The California housing market saw a resurgence in February, with statewide home sales reaching a two-year high thanks to lower mortgage rates.

The California Association of Realtors reported that sales of single-family homes in the state totaled 283,540 in February, an 11.6% uptick from the 254,110 homes sold in January and an increase of 2.6% year-over-year.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles and Orange counties also saw a month-to-month single-family home sales gain of 4.8% and 9.5%, respectively. Despite a 2.4% drop in sales in LA County compared to the previous year, Orange County’s home sales remained unchanged.

LA’s median single-family home price fell almost 4% in February, reaching $852,190, according to CAR. However, the price has increased from $817,100 last year. Orange County’s median single-family home price rose to $1.46 million in February, from $1.43 million the previous month. Last February, the median price of a single-family home in Orange County was $1.35 million.
