ANAHEIM, Calif. — Disneyland visitors can now wait in line, perhaps an hour or so, to ride the brand-new Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway attraction.
Starting today, Disneyland has removed its virtual queue option, for now, for the new dark ride that debuted last month. Visitors can wait in a standby line or pay an additional charge to use the Lightning Lane entrance.
Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway debuted on Jan. 27 at Disneyland, the same day the Disneyland Resort kicked off the year-long Disney 100 celebration, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Walt Disney Co. Walt and his brother, Roy, founded the company in Hollywood in 1923.
The first Mickey Mouse-themed ride pulls riders in and immerses them in an old Mickey Mouse cartoon.
The brand-new ride anchors a newly revamped Toon Town, which will debut on March 19.
When the ride opened in January, visitors had to sign in and check the Disneyland Resort mobile application to join a virtual queue to ride the attraction in Toontown.
Disneyland often implements a virtual queue to manage a high-demand attraction's line.
The virtual line for Runaway Railway opened at 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. and often filled up within a few minutes, leaving the unlucky guest to skip the ride or pay to play.
Depending on the day, Disney charges an additional $12 to $25 for visitors wanting to skip the lines at certain high-demand attractions.
The upcharge feature and Genie+ have been a boon for company revenue, helping the Disney theme park division to record profits, the former CEO previously said.
According to the Disneyland Resort mobile app, those wanting to use the Lightning Lane pay-to-skip-the-line system for Runaway Railway will have to pay $20 per ticket.
On Wednesday, the standby line waiting to ride the new attraction was 50 minutes to an hour after Disneyland opened.
