ANAHEIM, Calif. (CNS) — The Los Angeles Angels will wear their City Connect Series uniform for the first time Saturday evening when they face the New York Mets at Angel Stadium.

The uniform blends the team’s red with retro Southern California beach and surf style.

The jersey is cream-colored with the Angels lettering inspired by vintage surf brands. The end of the Angels “S” is in the shape of a “fish tail” end of a surfboard in a nod to Mike Trout and Tim Salmon, the top two home run hitters in team history.

The numbers mirror the bold typeface on the side of local lifeguard towers while the deep blue coloring takes inspiration from the Pacific Ocean. The diamond surrounding the numbers on the front of the jersey is another tribute to popular surf culture brands.

The sleeve patch pays tribute to the early railway that connected Southern California. Palm fronds peak from behind the “A” is a reflection of the familiar foliage throughout the area.

Two asymmetrical stripes featured on the left sleeve draw inspiration from the sleek and simple design of retro surfboards.

The jock tag is a surfboard with fins featuring the Angels halo.

The Angels plan to wear the uniform for about seven-to-10 home games this season, a team spokesman told City News Service.

The MLB City Connect Series uniforms were introduced last year with seven teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers. According to Nike, “The designs continue to explore a franchise’s connection to its city and its fanbase, each with distinct personalities, values, customs and traditions.”

The Angels are the 12th team with a City Connect Series uniform.
