How California Government Works

Find Your State Lawmakers

The California Legislature is made up of a 40-member California Senate and the 80-member California Assembly. Each California resident has a state senator and state representative that represents them in Sacramento. 

Below are the maps for the California assembly and senate districts for Southern California. You can zoom in and maneuver each map to where you live. Then, hover your cursor over the district in your area to find your legislator. Click on the district to go to that legislator's website. 

Not sure which district is yours? You can look up all your representatives by going to the California State Legislature website.


  • JANUARY 7, 2019: Legislature reconvenes.
  • JANUARY 10, 2019: Budget must be submitted by the Governor.
  • JANUARY 25, 2019: Last day to submit bill requests to the Office of Legislative Counsel.
  • February 22, 2019: Last day for bills to be introduced.
  • June 15, 2019: Budget Bill must be passed by midnight.
  • October 13, 2019: Last day for Governor to sign or veto bills passed by the Legislature on or before Sept. 13 and in the Governor's possession after Sept. 13.
