CALIFORNIA – California Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a statewide emergency while most of the state is under a Red Flag Warning and wildfires continue to popup, prompting evacuations.

A Fire Management Assistant Grant has been allocated from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help crews fight the Getty Fire currently burning 500 acres in Los Angeles County. The fire is threatening up to 10,000 structures, leading to mandatory evacuations near the Getty Center.

The grant will help local and state agencies responding to the fires to receive a 75-percent reimbursement for their fire suppression costs.

Resources for the Kincade and Tick fires will also benefit from the grant money as a state of emergency was previously declared for those fires.

Additionally, Newsom announced a $75-million program to diminish the impacts of the power shutoffs that are implemented during dangerous weather conditions.

“California is grateful for the ongoing support as we battle fires up and down the state in extremely severe weather conditions,” said Governor Newsom. “I thank our heroic emergency responders and volunteers for their tireless, life-saving work to safeguard communities across the state.”

Mayor Eric Garcetti tweeted that he is signing an emergency declaration immediately to bring in more resources to fight the Getty Fire.
