LOS ANGELES – Mandatory evacuations for most areas impacted by the Getty fire have been lifted. The fire broke out near the Getty Center early Monday morning and, fueled by Santa Ana winds, rapidly grew to 745 acres, potentially threatening 10,000 structures.

As of Thursday morning, the fire was 39 percent contained.

Firefighters are still actively involved in fighting the blaze, cooling hot spots and containing flare ups within the current fire perimeter.

No civilian injuries related to the fire have been reported, although two firefighters suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Approximately 7,091 residences are still considered threatened. Twelves residences have been destroyed and five have been damaged.

A 911 caller reported the fire around 1:34 a.m. east of Interstate 405 on Monday. Mayor Eric Garcetti tweeted that he is signing an emergency declaration immediately to bring in more resources to fight the Getty Fire. Additionally, Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a statewide emergency to obtain a Fire Management Assistant Grant.

Investigators have determined the preliminary cause of the fire was a tree branch that broke off and landed on nearby powerlines during high wind conditions. The tree branch's impact caused sparking and arcing of powerlines, igniting nearby brush.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, it is a very dynamic fire that is moving westward and zero percent contained. Over 600 LAFD firefighters, along with crews from neighboring departments, are working to control the blaze.
