LOS ANGELES — Call them whatever you want, be it Huskies or underdogs. As of Friday night, the Centennial Huskies are CIF Champions.

In a battle between the two top seeds of the Open Division, it wasn’t the dogfight everyone expected. While the game was close, the Huskies led the pace, leading by as much as 8 throughout the contest.

What You Need To Know

  • Centennial took home its first-ever CIF Open Division title in a battle with Sierra Canyon

  • The Huskies' balanced attack was enough to dethrone the reigning champions to the tune of an 80-72 victory

  • Sophomore guard Kylan Boswell led the charge for the Huskies, with 26 points and six three-pointers

  • Centennial has opted out of the SoCal regional tournament next week but will finish the season as champions

Sierra Canyon was led by junior guard Amari Bailey who scored a game-high 30 points, putting on a show in front of a star-studded crowd that included Lebron James, JR Smith, and Drake.

But his performance was not enough to overcome the Huskies' balanced attack.

Centennial relied on a team-oriented approach, doing all of the little things right, whether rebounding, forcing turnovers, or making clutch shots from the perimeter.

While sophomore guard Jared McCain and junior guard Donovan Dent had solid performances, sophomore guard Kylan Boswell really put on a show. Boswell had a team-high 26 points, including six clutch threes, each coming at a seemingly more important point in the game.

With the win Centennial took home its first-ever open division championship in school history, unseating the reigning champions. The Huskies have decided to opt-out of the regional but will return all five starters next season. They leave the 2020 season as champions.

Meanwhile, Sierra Canyon will be back in action next week.

No surprise, the Trailblazers are early favorites in the SoCal Regional tournament. They will await their seeding announcement this weekend, with games tipping off Tuesday night.
