It seems like for the last several weeks the weather has turned active every Thursday, and this week is no exception.

What You Need To Know

  • Timing of system: Thursday into Friday

  • This is an all-snow event

  • Parts of the state could see several inches of snow

Various weather alerts are in effect in central and southern Wisconsin including Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories.

Those counties shaded in pink or purple will see heavy snow at times, with several inches of snow accumulation possible.

Snow will push into far western Wisconsin early Thursday afternoon.

Although most of the state will see snow by Thursday evening, it won't become widespread until we get closer to midnight.

By Friday morning, snow will start to move out of western Wisconsin but linger in the eastern half of the state.

Although a lot of the snow will clear out by Friday afternoon, with the possibility of lake enhancement, we could see snow continue for those in southeastern Wisconsin along the lakefront through Friday night.

The heaviest bands of snow will happen from Thursday evening into early Friday morning. With the addition of a strong northerly wind at 20 mph, blowing snow is possible, creating low visibility.

On top of that, keep an eye on road conditions as they'll likely be slippery, if not snow-covered, Thursday night into early Friday morning.

When all is said and done, I think the majority of central and southern Wisconsin will see about 3 to 6 inches of snow accumulation. I do think there will be locations throughout southern Wisconsin seeing just over 6 inches. The best chance of that looks like southeastern Wisconsin along the lakefront due to the possibility for lake enhancement.

A lot of the northern half of Wisconsin will see about 1 to 3 inches with lower amounts in our farthest north counties.
