A powerful winter storm continues to drive across the state over the next couple days. This system is going to be rather disruptive because of heavy snow, ice and wind.

If you have travel plans from through Thursday morning, you may need to make some adjustments. Monitor road conditions and weather reports closely.

What You Need To Know

  • Heavy snow likely in central and northern Wisconsin

  • Sleet and freezing rain seen in far southern Wisconsin

  • Best to avoid travel as conditions continue to deteriorate

The entire state is under various winter weather alerts through Thursday.

Most of the state is under a Winter Storm Warning as the majority of us will see several inches of snow when all is said and done, with quiet a few locations seeing over a foot of snow.

Bayfield and Ashland Counties are under a Blizzard Warning due to the combination of heavy snow and strong wind creating near-whiteout conditions.

Far southern Wisconsin is under an Ice Storm Warning due to icing from freezing rain and sleet.

Heavy snow continues to move through the majority of the state Wednesday evening, with far southern Wisconsin still seeing a mix consisting of freezing rain and sleet.

The worst conditions will be from Wednesday evening into the overnight as visibility will be low and road conditions will be snow-covered for most, and icy closer to the Wisconsin/Illinois state line.

We'll see one final push of heavy snow moving through the Badger State Thursday morning, before a lot of it clearing out shortly after noon. This is likely to slow down your typical Thursday morning commute.

Total snow accumulations could surpass a foot in many locations, especially in central and northern Wisconsin.

With southern Wisconsin seeing more of a mix, although lesser snow amount are anticipated, icing is likely, with those closest to the Wisconsin/Illinois stateline seeing around a quarter of an inch of ice accumulation.
