Tissue after tissue, sneeze after a sneeze. It's hard to spend time outside and you can't even open up the windows on a nice day! Welcome to pollen season in Wisconsin.

What You Need To Know

  • Tree pollens are the first to catch your attention this time of year

  • As we head into June, look for grass pollens to spike

  • Warm, sunny and windy days will only make things worse

Over the last few weeks, you have probably noticed a lot of trees budding out in your neighborhood. If you look closely enough, you've probably seen pollen particles flying off of those trees as well!

That right there is the reason for all the sneezing you've been doing lately!

Our recent cool stretch of weather has put a bit of a lid on the pollen count. However, over the next few days (and weeks), warmer weather is coming back, and that means the pollen will ramp up as well.

Across Wisconsin, the main tree pollens that are at play right now are Birch, Willow and Maple. Peak pollen season for each of these is—you guessed it—late April through late May. Now!

Once we get into June, most of the trees will be done budding (and done spewing pollen).

However, the grass and the weed pollens will then ramp up as we go through the summer.

It almost makes you wish for cold weather season to return. Almost.

Bottom line: if you've been sneezing your head off this month, you can thank the tree pollen. If your allergies haven't acted up yet, they probably will as we move into June.

Gesundheit!
