LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Los Angeles Lakers and NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar fell at a concert Friday night and has been hospitalized with a broken hip, representatives told media Saturday.
According to CNN, the 76-year-old Abdul-Jabbar is scheduled to have surgery today.
Abdul-Jabbar's business partner, Deborah Morales, said the NBA legend attended a concert Friday night when he fell.
"We are all deeply appreciative of all the support for Kareem, especially from the Los Angeles Fire Department who assisted Kareem on site and the amazing medical team and doctors at UCLA Hospital who are taking great care of Kareem now," Morales said in a statement to X, formerly Twitter.
A Spectrum-News follow up message to one of his representatives was not returned as of press time.
Abdul-Jabbar is among the greatest basketball players ever at UCLA, the Lakers and the NBA.
Abdul-Jabbar won three consecutive NCAA championships at UCLA before playing 20 seasons in the NBA, first with the Milwaukee Bucks and later with the Lakers.
