GREEN BAY, Wis. — According to sources, The New York Jets agreed on a deal Monday to acquire the four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers rom the Green Bay Packers.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Packers will receive first-round pick No. 13, a second-round pick (No. 42) and a sixth-round pick (No. 207) in this year's draft, plus a conditional 2024 second-round pick that becomes a first if Rodgers plays 65% of the plays this season.
The Jets will receive: Aaron Rodgers, first-round pick No. 15 and a fifth-round pick (No. 170) this year.
The Packers are not only dealing their 4-time MVP quarterback, but they are also freeing up nearly $60 million of cap space with Rodgers departure.
After weeks of silence, Aaron Rodgers' future became abundantly clear on March 15, when he said on The Pat McAfee Show that "his intention is to play, and to play for the New York Jets."
“I love so many people in that town, so many people that work in that organization, and I love the fans," said Rodgers on The Pat McAfee Show. “I have nothing but love in my heart for every Packer fan, but we just gotta look at the reality. They want to move on."
The Packers and the Jets finally came to an agreement over the trade compensation after nearly six weeks and jsut three days before the 2023 NFL Draft. By getting the trade done before the draft, Rodgers will be able to take part in offseason workouts for the Jets and the Packers can benefit in this year's draft.
Rodgers now will be tasked with leading a franchise that hasn’t been in the Super Bowl since Joe Namath led the franchise to a victory in its only appearance in January 1969.
New York was 7-10 last season, finishing on a six-game losing streak that extended the NFL’s longest active playoff drought to a franchise-record 12 straight years.
