MILWAUKEE — John Steinmiller has passed away at age 73 after battling colon cancer.
Most Bucks fans probably weren’t even aware of everything he did behind the scenes in his 52 years with the franchise.
A proud Marquette University grad, I had the chance to see John in action during my 25 years of doing radio for the club.
At the time, his title was Vice President of Business Operations for owner Herb Kohl.
Truth was, John was never too big for any task.
I would routinely see him cleaning seats during the changeovers at the Bradley Center from either a Marquette or Admirals game.
He was a confidant for coaches, yet always fiercely loyal to the franchise.
Reaching back to his public relations days, he would often keep stats for the TV broadcast with his good friends Jim Paschke and Jon McGlocklin. This was a team Vice President happily performing the chore.
He made a lasting impact on the Bucks, yet I mourn for his family, his wife and two children.
John Steinmiller will be remembered. No one will ever care more or do more for the Milwaukee Bucks.
