GREEN BAY, Wis. — Aaron Rodgers was not at the Green Bay Packers voluntary OTA practice on Tuesday.
He’s expected at the team’s mandatory minicamp in June.
“I talked to him last night for a while, which is great,” head coach Matt LaFleur said. “Just to kind of update him on where we are, and go over a few tweaks to what you’re doing. He’s in great spirits and it was a great conversation. I wouldn’t anticipate seeing him at least this week.”
Wide receiver Randall Cobb isn’t stressing about Rodgers’ absence.
“Obviously we’d like him to be here, but he’s not,” said Cobb. “That’s okay. It’s part of it. Everybody has things they gotta do in life, and it’s all good.”
With Rodgers not on the practice field, backup quarterback Jordan Love gets more work. Love said he was “supper happy” for Rodgers’ contract extension.
“The dude deserves it, what he’s done in the last two years,” he said. “Personally, for me, it just means I’m about to be a backup again for this year. That’s all I can control right now, but I was happy for Aaron. At the same time, it’s like, ahh, ya know?”
There was some news Tuesday as Matt LaFleur revealed that the Packers will hold joint practices with the Saints before their preseason game at Lambeau Field in August.
“I talked to (Saints Head Coach) Dennis Allen yesterday,” LaFleur said. “We’re just kind of working out the details of what days we’re going to practice and how we’re going to practice.”
For the record, Aaron Rodgers wasn’t the only Packers veteran not at Tuesday’s practice; Jaire Alexander, Allen Lazard and Sammy Watkins were also not on hand.
