MILWAUKEE — A well-pitched game. Solid defense. Just enough hitting.

If the Brewers are going to go deep in the playoffs, they're going to need to utilize those strengths like they did in Friday's 2-1 playoff-opening victory over the Braves at American Family Field.

Corbin Burnes overcame uncharacteristic early wildness to hurl six shutout innings.

He was aided by a 3-2 double play in the first. It was Atlanta's Charlie Morton who blinked in the seventh. It was a scoreless duel until Morton served up a two-run homer to Rowdy Tellez.

With Devin Williams out with injury, Adrian Houser turned in two valuable innings of relief in the 7th and 8th. He allowed only Joc Pederson's solo home run. Josh Hader closed things out in the 9th, like he almost always does.

It's a best-of-five series so Saturday's game looms large before the scene shifts to Atlanta. The script might change. But it might not.
