RACINE, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS) -- The city of Racine is turning to a drive-thru voting option to help voters stay socially distanced during the election.

At the city’s 14 polling places people were able to cast a ballot without leaving their car. While walk-up voting was still available, election staff at one polling place on the city’s west side say the overwhelming majority of people chose the drive-thru option. Racine Mayor Cory Mason says he wishes the election could have been postponed, but says he believes this is the best option for people to vote safely.

“Instead of standing inside a gym close to people they are able to do it curbside if they are worried about any physical disability or concerns they might have about Coronavirus or infection being spread they are going to take advantage of that here today in a drive thru set up that we have constructed here.” Says Mason

In order to keep all its polling sites open the city of Racine turned to city staff as well as local high school students to serve as election staff.
