WISCONSIN — Gov. Tony Evers on Thursday launched a series of efforts to help federal workers affected by Trump administration cuts.
It comes as more firings are planned, including in the Department of Veterans Affairs, where a reorganization could cut over 80,000 jobs, according to an internal memo.
Evers was one of several political leaders to join a multi-state lawsuit against President Donald Trump and his administration in response to the planned firings. He said the actions were “messing with lives and livelihoods.”
“The Trump Administration’s mass firings across the federal government in flagrant violation of the law have created undo chaos and confusion for tens of thousands of federal employees—employees who only wanted to do their best for the families and communities they were tasked to serve. These actions are not only harmful to our workforce, but they are harmful to the folks who have lost critical and trusted support systems in accessing the programs and resources they rely on each day,” said Evers in a press release.
Part of the Evers administration’s efforts to help includes a new portal that connects those workers with available opportunities and allows them access to job center services, unemployment benefits and other supports.
The Evers administration also announced a series of virtual job fairs that will be hosted by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) throughout the month of April to assist those who have lost their job or been displaced. Each will focus on a specific expertise. Those interested can register online.
