WISCONSIN — Wisconsin's wildfire risk continued to worsen into this week, spurred on in no small part by both dry conditions and whipping winds Monday.

"Our dryest, most dangerous parts of the state right now are in south central Wisconsin and much of central and northern Wisconsin," Garrett Lubbers, a forest ranger with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources' (DNR) Division of Forestry, said. "For much of the state, snow-free, and dry and windy conditions, are leading to that elevated fire danger."

The Wisconsin DNR features an updated wildfire dashboard on its website, which maps out the potential wildfire risk in specific parts of the state. Lubbers said knowing where things stand in your community at any given time is a big step in helping to prevent fires from sparking and spreading in the first place.

"That's really important for getting the most updated information," Lubbers said. "It talks about burning permits, how you can obtain them and what you can do safely as far as burning."
