MILWAUKEE — Three weeks after the deadly school shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, the United Way of Dane County continues to accept donations from across the country to support the Abundant Life Christian School Emergency and Recovery Fund.

"We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of so many donors," said Renee Moe, the president and CEO of the United Way of Dane County. "We have currently raised more than $233,000, which is great, in addition to so many others like Culver's stepping in to help raise additional funds."

On Monday, Dec. 16, a 15-year-old female student killed another teenage student and a teacher, police said. The student victim was identified as 14-year-old Rubi Patricia Vergara, a freshman at the school; the teacher was identified as 42-year-old Erin Michelle West, a sub coordinator and in-building substitute teacher. The shooter is also deceased.

Another six people were taken to the hospital with injuries ranging from “minor” to “life-threatening,” police said.

Moe said United Way continues to work with ALCS to determine how best to help with the money raised.

"There are three priorities that have been determined," Moe said. "First, of course, to support the victims who lost their lives and their loved ones; second, to support those who have ongoing health care needs and ongoing long-term support needs; and third, it will be to help with the recovery, specifically mental health."
