WISCONSIN — U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy warned of a link between alcohol and at least seven different types of cancer on Friday as he pushed for warning labels to be updated to reflect that advisory.

"Information and knowledge is power," said Katie Young, a wellness education specialist with Gundersen Health. "Having a lot of this information is going to help people make better decisions down the road."

Young said that drinking less, for some, could have immediate health and safety benefits.

"Just knowing with this link when it comes to the cancer warnings, that alcohol is something that's very preventable; it's something that you do have the power to change in your own life," Young said.
