GREEN BAY, Wis. — This year NFL fans enjoyed Green Bay Packers games at Lambeau Field during two different holidays.
Some green and gold fans were not only fortunate enough to see a Thanksgiving game, but they also got the chance to attend the game just before Christmas.
Erin Helgeson has been a Packers fan her entire life. She said spending quality time with her family around the holidays means a lot to her.
“This is the best. We made our Thanksgiving celebration, a family celebration,” said Helgeson. “We had all the kids and stuff with us, so it was awesome. So then, being able to do it again on Christmas and another night game, it’s snowing out. This is pretty special.”
Helgeson said they started their day with Bloody Marys, brats and burgers. She said nights like this are what Green Bay and the Packers are all about.
“This is iconic Lambeau Field, right? There’s snow coming down. It’s kind of cold. We’re all bundled up,” said Helgeson. “You’re doing the tailgate, you’re outside and then you get to watch the Packers win a night game. It’s great.”
John Winchell also attended the Thanksgiving game and the game before Christmas.
Winchell’s daughter moved to Wisconsin from Texas earlier this year. He said being able to see both games with her meant a lot.
“I’m very thankful, at 70 years old, I get to do a lot of things that a lot of people don’t get to do,” said Winchell. “This is unbelievable. It’s an experience that everybody in the world should get a chance to see.”
Helgeson said win, lose or draw, the Packers will always be her team.
“It’s a great team and they’re really young and they got a lot of spunk and they’re really fun to watch,” said Helgeson. “It’s been really exciting to come and watch these games when they’re playing really well. So it just makes the experience that much better.”
