MADISON, Wis. — A ruff day turned into a paws-itive story, thanks to the City of Madison Fire Department (MFD).
On Wednesday morning, just after 11:20 a.m., a woman who lives on Hammersley Road called 911 for help. Her dog, Darcy, had crawled under a porch and fell into a hole.
MFD’s Ladder Co. 7 arrived on the scene just five minutes later and met the woman at the home.
Darcy, a small chihuahua-dachshund mix, was indeed stuck in the hole, under a large back porch. The hole, which sat near the back wall of the house, was about 2 feet deep and 1 foot wide.
Two MFD firefighters, Ryan Beckwith and Bradley Hageman, alternated crawling under the porch. They eventually were able to get to the hole and grabbed Darcy.
She was brought back up to the surface and was not injured. She was reunited with her owner.
Darcy, her owner and her owner’s son all said they are thankful for Ladder Co. 7 for saving the pup and reuniting her with her family.
