WISCONSIN — U.S. News & World Report released its 2025 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care report along with its Maternity Care Access to Hospitals analysis on Tuesday.

The results were a bit of a mixed bag for maternal care access in certain communities in Wisconsin.

"In general, across the United States, we're seeing a spread of what we call maternity care deserts," said Jen Winston, a health analyst for U.S. News & World Report. "Today, U.S. News was happy to identify a number of maternity care access hospitals that are providing great quality care to patients in communities that might not otherwise have access to that care, and there were actually three of them in Wisconsin this year."

Winston said in order for communities that struggle to get access to the care they need, it is not only a quality of care issue, but also a quantity of providers issue.

"I think it's both," Winston said. "Wisconsin did have 19 hospitals that we recognized as 'best' hospitals for maternity care, which is also fantastic."
