WISCONSIN — With below-freezing temperatures across Wisconsin, many may be seeking refuge.

There are many areas of the state that open warming stations to keep vulnerable residents safe. Services can vary, but recreation centers, libraries and churches are commonly used as warming stations during the day.

Here are just a handful of warming shelters across the state, including overnight options.

Milwaukee

  • Repairers of the Breach, at 1335 W. Vliet St. It’s open six days a week to offer a refuge for homeless adults from 7 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. During cold snaps when temperatures fall below 32 degrees, the resource center opens at 7 p.m. and remains open all night long.
  • Cathedral Center at 845 N. Van Buren St. (guests should check in by 7 p.m.)
  • Guest House of Milwaukee at 1216 N. 13th St.
  • St. Ben’s, at 930 W. State Street
  • The Milwaukee Rescue Mission at 1820 W. Wells St. (must be there by 6:15 p.m.)
  • Joy House at 830 N. 19th St. (generally open from 12 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.)

Dane County

  • Porchlight Men’s Shelter, at 2002 Zeier Road (must be there from 5-8:30 p.m. for entry)
  • The Salvation Army Women’s Shelter, at 630 East Washington Ave. (must be there from 5-8:30 p.m. for entry)
  • Salvation Army of Dane County Emergency Family Shelter, 4502 Milwaukee St. (24/7; intake between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.)

Rock County

  • Gifts Men’s Shelter, 1025 N. Washington St. (Men only; overnight shelter)
  • The Center Avenue House, 802 Center Ave. (active when temperatures drop below 0 degrees; intake between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.)
  • Beloit Hospital Emergency Department, 1969 West Hart Rd. (active when temperatures drop below 0 degrees; open 24 hours)

Racine County

  • Raymond Village Hall, at 2255 76th St, Franksville 53126 (Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m.)
  • Village of Union Grove Community Room, at 925 15th Ave, Union Grove 53182 (Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.)
  • Racine County Human Services, at 1717 Taylor Ave, Racine 53403 (Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.)
  • Cesar Chavez Community Center, at 2221 Douglas Ave, Racine 53402 (Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.)
  • Dr. John Bryant Community Center, at 601 21st Street Racine, WI 53403 (Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-6 p.m.)
  • Dr. M.L.K. Jr. Community Center, at 1134 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive Racine, WI 53404 (Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.)
  • Tyler-Domer Community Center, at 2301 12th Street Racine, WI 53403 (Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-6 p.m.)
  • Safe Haven of Racine at 1030 Washington Avenue, Racine WI 53403 (Daily 24 hrs for youth ages 10-17 only)

La Crosse

  • Catholic Charities Community Homeless Facilities - La Crosse Warming Center, at 413 3rd Street South La Crosse, WI 54601 (open for overflow from the warming center when temperatures dip between 7 p.m. and 8 a.m.; intake hours are between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. each night)

Columbia County

  • Columbus Community Center, at 125 N. Dickason Blvd. (Monday-Friday 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.)
  • Portage Municipal Building, at 115 W. Pleasant Street (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)

Wausau

Green Bay

  • St. John’s Ministries Men’s Shelter, at 411 St. John Street, Green Bay, WI 54301 (opens every day at 5 p.m.)
  • St. John’s Ministries Women’s Shelter, at 700 E. Walnut Street, Green Bay, WI 54301 (opens every day at 5 p.m.)
  • New Community Shelter Emergency Shelter, at 301 Mather St, Green Bay, WI 54303 (open 24 hours)
