ASHAWUBENON, Wis. — Warming your hands over an open fire wasn’t a bad way to spend time at Titletown near Lambeau Field Friday.

Just ask Dennis Leatherwood of Waukesha, who was doing just that.

What You Need To Know

  • Titletown is hosting special winter- and holiday-themed events through the end of December

  • Cold weather didn’t stop families from pursuing their traditions and going to Titletown Friday

  • High temperatures in many parts of Wisconsin are expected to remain cold throughout the weekend

“It’s cold today. It’s 20 degrees,” he said. “Today is one of those days with the sun out like this, you can come out and have a great walk and get some hot cocoa around noon.”

Leatherwood was in the Green Bay area for Thanksgiving with family. He said Titletown offered him and his two sons an outdoor activity.

“Every time we come up here, we always try to go to the Packers park. If we can’t go to the Packers park, we go right next door to the big football field and shoot the football around,” Leatherwood said. “If we can’t do that, we try to come here and play the games. There’s always a lot of good activities here.”

Friday and Saturday are the start of the Titletown Winter Jubilee. Special winter- and holiday-themed events are planned for Titletown for the reminder of November and through the entire month of December.

That includes paid skating, which is what Melanie Mommaerts of Altoona could be found doing.

“It’s a tradition for us,” she said. “Every Thanksgiving, the Friday after, we come here and ice skate.”

Even if that means a few extra layers of clothing.

“It’s something we do look forward to,” Mommaerts said. “We’ve done it for the past three years and my kids love it.”

From the ice to the turf, Bennett Kasischke and his brother, Jake, were among the many making the most of a sunny day on the Titletown football field. They attended Thursday night’s Packers game with their parents.

“It’s kind of tough because you have to put so many layers on and you’ve got to be ready for the cold,” Bennett Kasischke said.

And that cold weather? Leatherwood gives it a little bit of credit for the Packers victory over the Miami Dolphins.

“I knew they were going to beat them because of the weather. It’s really cold, and that’s an advantage,” he said. “I always say ‘lucky Lambeau.’ Lambeau is always on our side, no matter what.”
