GREEN BAY, Wis. — Thanksgiving Day looked a little different in Green Bay as the Packers had their first home game on the holiday since 2015.

  • This was the first Thanksgiving Day home game for the team since 2015

  • The Packers have only hosted Thanksgiving Day games three times in its storied history

One family of Packers fans went all out and brought their feast to right outside Lambeau Field. Angela Wright said her home team was the only exception to breaking the family’s formal Thanksgiving tradition dinner every year.

“When you have a Packer game on a holiday, you can incorporate the two,” said Wright. “So we kind of made our Thanksgiving dinner a little more casual and we elevated our tailgate.”

Wright cooked nearly every dish, including the herb-crusted turkey, mashed potatoes and the pumpkin pie.

“I had everybody bring some sides and then we kept the cooler on warm,” said Wright. “And then as soon as the turkey came out of the oven, we wrapped it in a Packers blanket and then we just put it in the tailgate of the truck and popped it off and it was still hot. So we ate out here.”

It’s a setup that stood up to outdoor Thanksgiving temperatures. Wright’s son, Andrew Gruesen, said he was thankful for his mom’s vision of making the holiday more special.

“It’s just nice to be able to combine a nice family outing with an organization and a team that we love so much,” said Gruesen. “And are so proud to be in an area where they’re from and to kind of put it all together in one on the holiday is pretty special.”

Wright said she has a long list of what she’s grateful for this year: family (including a new daughter-in-law), her job, the blessings they all have, and of course, the Packers.

“My family is everything to me. So this means a lot,” said Wright. “And I love the Packers. So it’s just a win-win.”
