SHEBOYGAN, Wis. — On Oct. 31, the City of Sheboygan discovered an external third party had gained unauthorized access to its network.
City officials released a statement regarding the incident to the public on Nov. 10. On Nov. 11, they confirmed to Spectrum News the network had been secured.
On Nov. 22, Sheboygan officials said after a forensic review of the incident conducted by cybersecurity experts, there is no evidence that these unauthorized users obtained any sensitive, personal data.
Officials did say that the unauthorized users did name the City of Sheboygan in a post. They shared a screenshot that showed a list of archived files, but no data was posted or made public.
Officials said they will continue to monitor the situation. They also said they are working with cybersecurity specialists to ensure its systems are safe.
