MILWAUKEE — Need a ride to get to the polls? Milwaukee residents can snag a Lime ride for free via its “Unlock Democracy” campaign.
From now through Nov. 5, voters in Milwaukee can get two complementary rides to get to and from their polling location when they use the code “VOTE2024.” Rides can last up to 30 minutes.
Lime said it does not want transportation access to be a barrier that would prevent someone from voting. Through its Lime to the Polls programming, Lime said it has provided more than 90,000 free or low-cost rides for voters to get to their polling places in more than a dozen countries.
“During election season, we want to make it as easy as possible for riders to connect with the democratic process. Lime to the Polls has been popular for years throughout the country and we are hoping Milwaukee will be one of the biggest cities in the country in terms of people taking advantage, Calvin Elmore, operations manager for Lime, said.
Milwaukee is one of multiple cities that can partake in Lime to the Polls. Riders may notice that Lime's vehicles, including its e-scooters, throughout the city have been wrapped with QR codes. When a rider scans the code, they’ll be able to check their voter registration and, if needed, register to vote. The page will also offer information on where, when and how they can voter, whether they opt to vote early or on Election Day.
“This election is critical, which is why we’re eager to help as many people as possible take part,” Emily Gibbs, senior manager of social impact at Lime, said. “There are so many key issues at stake that impact people’s lives and we’re committed to making it easier for our riders to vote and make their voices heard.”
Lime said its rides are safe, sustainable and affordable. Lime said it is not affiliated with any political parties or candidates, and simply wants to encourage people to vote in a nonpartisan way.
