GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Packers have an important division game against the first place, 6-1 Detroit Lions Sunday at Lambeau Field. The Packers aren't quite sure yet who will start at quarterback.
Jordan Love wants to play. The question is whether his strained groin will improve enough by then to allow him to play.
“We'll monitor it, but big division game coming up," said Love. "So, I'm going to do all I can try and get back to work. I want to be out there for the guys on my team and to put my best foot forward out there for them. Whoever it was, I would definitely try and get back as fast as possible. Even with the bye being next week.”
“He’s moving around better, we'll see," said Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur. "We'll take it one day at a time and we'll push the envelope with that. He wants to play. We'll see where he's at by the end of the week.”
Jordan Love and Jaire Alexander were among the Packers who didn't practice Wednesday as they rehabbed injuries. If Love is unable to play Sunday, Malik Willis will get the call. Whether coming in during the game to help produce the win in Jacksonville or leading the Packers to victory in his two starts, Willis has proven to be up to the task.
“Just taking it each day at a time," said Willis. "Whatever they want to install, try to make sure I'm locked in and handle it the best I can and make sure I'm going home studying. Seeing what they're seeing, what they feel like, the expectation of what the play should be, and just understanding the outcome they want.”
For Love, being on the sidelines while his teammates work is no fun.
“It’s definitely frustrating," said Love. "You wish you can just go through a season and be healthy, bounce back every week, but things pop up. Like I say all the time, control what you can control. So, doing my best to just try get through the week, do my best doing treatment and get myself ready. Not practicing during the week is not the ideal format for trying to play a game. But, things happen. So, if that's the scenario, I know I'll be fine. Definitely is not the ideal scenario for going into a big week.”
The Packers will wear uniforms Sunday inspired by those donned by the team in the 1950s.
