MADISON, Wis. — The Madison Police Department said responded to an incident at West Towne Mall Friday afternoon.
Police said one shot was fired inside the mall, near an entrance by Sephora and the Cheesecake Factory. Police were dispatched at 11:36 a.m.
Police said witnesses reported hearing a fight between people before the shooting occured.
Video obtained by police showed two people near a cell phone store. One of those people pulled out a gun and shot toward another person, who police said was across a hallway. Police said it was not clear from the video if that person was injured, but officials have not received any injury reports at this time. Police also said no one with a gunshot wound has gone to a nearby hospital for care.
Police said the suspects left the mall and got into a car.
No arrests have been made.
The mall went on lockdown after the shooting. Police said the mall and its employees followed proper safety procedures. Customers were moved into safe sections of stores. The lockdown has since been lifted and most stores were open again as of 1:30 p.m. Friday. Police said some businesses near the mall also went on lockdown but have since re-opened.
Police said this is an active investigation and they are being assisted by detectives from the violent crime unit.
