WISCONSIN — A Wisconsin woman who’s nearing a milestone birthday had a wish come true thanks to Ripon College.
Lois Ohnstad, who’s turning 100 this month, wasn’t able to graduate with her bachelor’s degree when she attended the college in 1942.
It was during the war, “when all the men were gone,” said Ohnstad.
She later went on to earn her diploma in nursing from Columbia School of Nursing in Milwaukee.
But not earning her bachelor’s degree was her only regret in life, Ohnstad’s daughter Debra said.
So her daughter reached out to Ripon College to make her mom’s dream come true. The university came through.
On Ohnstad’s 100th birthday, Ripon College President Victoria Folse traveled to Menomonie, Wis. to give her an honorary bachelor of arts degree.
