WISCONSIN — As the popularity of pickleball continues to climb across the country and in Wisconsin, so do the number of related-injuries.

“With pickleball, what I’ve seen is that there are upper- and lower-extremity injuries,” said Dr. Jonathan Dunker with Prevea Health. “I think it has to do with the sport itself and the rapid side-to-side motion and the running.”

While the number of people dealing with pickleball injuries may be on the rise, Dunker — a pickleball player himself — was quick to point out that the health benefits from it far outweigh any potential injury concerns.

“It’s a little less physically demanding than a sport like tennis, where you have to cover a larger amount of ground,” Dunker said. “It just makes it a much easier sport and a much more approachable sport for more individuals.”
