WISCONSIN — A new article from ProPublica titled "Maylia and Jack: A Story of Teens and Fentanyl," is shining a spotlight on a tragic story out of the Fox Valley area when it comes to teens and fentanyl use. The story has become more and more common over the past few years all across Wisconsin.

"I reached out to the Brown County drug task force," said ProPublica's Lizzie Presser. "What they had discovered was that every single fake Percocet that they had confiscated and tested in 2022 was actually just fentanyl and filler."

Now, as Presser reported, Jack McDonough is dead and Maylia Sotelo faces years in the criminal justice system following her conviction.

"Maylia is now facing 10 years of prison time and 10 years of extended supervision," Presser said. "She's currently in a youth facility and will be transferred to an adult prison when she turns 18."
