MILWAUKEE — After winning the National League Central Division with 93 victories, the Brewers open the playoffs against the Wild Card New York Mets late Tuesday afternoon at American Family Field.
It's a best-of-three series with all of the games played in Milwaukee.
The Brewers are in the playoffs for the sixth time in seven years, but they haven't won a postseason series since 2018.
Murphy's law
Pat Murphy has had the perfect touch for this team. He will become the first Manager of the Year in Brewers history. The postseason is a different animal, though. All of his moves will be heavily scrutinized. He’s seen it before as a longtime college head coach at Notre Dame and Arizona State, but this is the first time he’ll be a manager in the Major League Baseball postseason.
Bigger stage for Chourio
It’s also the first time in the playoffs for Brewers’ 20-year-old rookie phenom Jackson Chourio.
He’s shown no signs of not being ready for the spotlight. After a slow start, Chourio blossomed into a star. Contributing to a winning team in October would be another step forward for Chourio. His high level of talent gives Brewers fans hope for a deep postseason run.
What about starting pitching?
Brewers starting pitching will have to meet the challenge in the playoffs. They did during the regular season. With Corbin Burnes traded to Baltimore and Brandon Woodruff out all season with injury, pitching coach Chris Hook and the Brewers found a way. Trades for Aaron Civale and Frankie Montas were a big help.
Led by Devin Williams and Trevor Megill, the Brewers have an outstanding bullpen. That’s why having a lead in the late innings will be so important.
