MILWAUKEE — The Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation is again reminding all Wisconsinites about increasing dangers on roads across Wisconsin as more farmers head out over the next few weeks for the traditional fall harvest.

“The responsibility on the roadway really comes down to both the motor vehicle driver and the farmer who’s driving the semi, combine or tractor down the road,” said Mitch Giebel, a farmer in Juneau County.

Some new laws have been on the books in Wisconsin for the past decade now, limiting when drivers can legally attempt to pass machinery.

“On the small side, those tractors that are on the road are 20,000 to 30,000 pounds,” Giebel said. “That’s probably five to six times the weight of your regular car that’s moving down the road.”
