MILWAUKEE —  Officials released the name of a suspect connected to the shooting of three Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) officers.

MPD Chief Jeffrey Norman said on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 10:15 a.m. in the 5300 block of North 91st Street, police were looking for a 35-year-old male suspect. He was wanted for possessing a firearm as a felon, domestic violence related false imprisonment and sexual assault.

MPD officers attempted to communicate with the suspect, but the suspect opened fire on the officers just after 11:30 a.m. Four police officers shot back at the suspect.

After the gunfire exchange, Norman said officers continued to communicate with the suspect, who then surrendered two firearms and extended magazines. He was then taken into custody.

On Monday, Sept. 9, the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office issued criminal charges against Keith W. Jeter in connection to the shooting.

Jeter has been charged with four counts of attempted first degree intentional homicide, use of a dangerous weapon. He also faces two counts of first degree recklessly endangering safety, use of a dangerous weapon. He’s also been charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon and one count of felony bail jumping.

If Jeter is convicted, he could be fined up to $110,000 and face up to 321 years in prison.

MPD said as of Tuesday, Sept. 10, all of its officers who were injured in the shooting had been released from the hospital. MPD also said that officers involved in the shooting are still on administrative duty, per policy.
