Spectrum News one caught up with several of them Saturday at the ribbon cutting for Madison’s Black Business Hub.

Korbey White, from Verona, was one of them.

“I’m encouraged, empowered,” White said. “Met some amazing leaders.”

White said standout moments for him were hearing from lawmakers each day and attending different caucuses.

He said he had high expectations for how exciting his first convention would be and said it was even better than he’d imagined.

“Also interacting with the other delegates from around the country who had that same intensity,” White said. “It was amazing. It surpassed my expectations as far as the intensity.”

Several lawmakers who attended the convention were also at Saturday’s event, including Wisconsin’s Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski.

“The convention did exactly what it needed to do,” Godlewski said. “It shared that our values are Wisconsin values. Whether it’s making sure we fight for homeownership, so everybody has equal opportunity, to addressing price gouging to defending our democracy.”

Godlewski said the convention reinforced what she said Democrats are fighting for in this election: freedom.

“Whether it is your reproductive freedom, your freedom to marry who you love, to the freedom to be able to read the books that you want to be able to read,” she said.

White said those memories will last a lifetime, but most importantly, they’ll motivate him.

“There’s so much work to do,” he said. “We got to knock on those doors, like Vice President Harris said. We got to make those phone calls. We got to cure this voter apathy.”
