MILWAUKEE — David Salazar, the police chief for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s police department, said he resigned Thursday.

Salazar shared a letter about his resignation to some media outlets. Spectrum News 1 is working to obtain that letter.

UW-Milwaukee confirmed Salazar’s resignation and released the following statement

“UWM is deeply disappointed in David Salazar’s resignation through the media, which UWM learned about through news reports. He was the subject of a misconduct investigation that began in March and was in its final stages when he resigned publicly and attacked the university in anticipation of the investigation’s outcome. His allegations are gross misstatements and contrary to any facts.

“UWM is also deeply disappointed that he chose to make false accusations against the institution and its employees to deflect against his own misdeeds.”

The university placed Salazar on administrative leave in April 2024.
