MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee police officer shot and wounded a 22-year-old man at a gas station on the 4300 block of W. Capitol Drive the evening of July 17.
Police were dispatched to the gas station for a suspect that was wanted for a double shooting. Police said upon arrival, the suspect retreated to the back of the gas station and the officers gave several commands for the suspect to show his hands. The suspect disregarded the instructions and fired shots toward individuals inside the store and officers, according to officials.
The suspect then pointed his firearm toward officers, which caused a Milwaukee police officer to discharge his weapon, police said.
Police said additional force was used to take the suspect into custody. There were no other injuries reported. Officials added that no shooting victims were located.
On Aug. 1, the Milwaukee Police Department released video of the incident. Video can be viewed, here; officials said view discretion is advised.
The 22-year-old suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The officers involved were a 39-year-old male with more than five years of service, a 31-year-old male with over four years of service and a 25-year-old male with more than four years of service. As routine procedure, the officers have been placed on administrative duty.
The Milwaukee Police Homicide Unit will investigate the shooting. Police said it is a “fluid and ongoing investigation.”
