Alan Chavoya, a member of the coalition, remained resolute in his stance against the incoming Republicans.

"To let them to know we stand against their values and everything they represent to our city and to this country," Chavoya said.

Organizers expect more than 5,000 protest participants. Groups such as Reproductive Justice Action Milwaukee, The Milwaukee Anti-War Committee and MAARPR are expected to join the protests Monday.

Despite larger-than-usual numbers, Chavoya expressed confidence in his group’s plan.

“We’re not violating any of the ordinances in the sense of the Secret Service; you know that we’re not going to through the credential zone because that will put a big risk on our people,” said Chavoya. “We’re going through places that we are allowed to go through that are public, so we are going to handle that as we go.”

The assassination attempt on Trump has intensified security concerns. However, Omar Flores, the coalition's chair, did not condemn the attempt.

When asked if the group would condemn the assassination attempt, Flores responded, "Why would we? The shooting has nothing to do with us."

The coalition said it is prepared for anything.

“Security has been extremely last-minute and so we’re pretty used last-minute changes,” said Flores.

During a press conference on Sunday, participants articulated their goals, which include defending immigrant, abortion and LGBTQ rights. These issues will be the focus of their protests on Monday.

“We’re going to do the best we can and that’s what we prepared for,” said Chavoya.
