MILWAUKEE — The 2024 Republican National Convention (RNC) is just hours from getting underway as final touches are put not just on the stage, but the speeches too, especially in the wake of the shooting at former President Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

On the eve of the massive political event in Milwaukee, organizers working behind the scenes for more than two years said they are ready for the monumental moment.

What You Need To Know

  • The Republican National Committee will host its presidential nominating convention from July 15-18 in Milwaukee

  • Thousands of delegates from 56 states and territories will attend
  • Upwards of 50,000 guests are expected for the four-day convention

In the wake of Saturday’s shooting at a rally for the party’s presumptive nominee, things are still moving forward in Milwaukee.

The Republican National Committee and Trump campaign released a joint statement which informed delegates and party members the former president is looking forward to joining them at the convention.

“President Trump looks forward to joining you all in Milwaukee as we proceed with our convention to nominate him to serve as the 47th President of the United States. As our party’s nominee, President Trump will continue to share his vision to Make America Great Again.”

“There’s so much anxiety and tension in the air because we’re ready, and we can’t wait to welcome the world to Milwaukee,” RNC Committee on Arrangements (COA) Chair Anne Hathaway said on Friday.

Ahead of the weekend, Hathaway gave Spectrum News an update on the final checklist.

“Making sure all of the electronics work, making sure that we can do everything at capacity, trying to anticipate anything that might go wrong, be prepared, and make sure that everybody knows where they’re going, and that we put on, also, a safe and secure convention,” Hathaway explained.

That priority has become even more prominent in the last 24 hours. However, the convention must continue in a swing state that’s playing host.

“Wisconsin is an important state for us, and we have an area set up called Wisconsin Media Row. Exclusive for Wisconsin media to make sure we take the message that Donald J. Trump, the Republican message, to every corner of the state,” Hathaway added.
