LA CROSSE, Wis. — The Mississippi River's wtaer levels continued to drop upriver on Wednesday. The National Weather Service's (NWS) monitor in La Crosse appeared to show that it's topped out in La Crosse at nearly 15 feet high. NWS said levels are expected to remain there for several days.

"The river itself is swift and unpredictable," said La Crosse County emergency management coordinator Tracy Hameau. "Last year we were at a little over 16 feet. The record is 17.9 feet."

Unlike previous floods, though, Hameau said any issues tied to the current high water levels, including a number of roads being shut down, could last for several days into early next week.

"Unfortunately, it looks as though Monday morning is when we'll start to see that go down a little bit," Hameau said. "As long as the weather stays as it's forecasted."
