GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Green Bay Packers have selected Ed Policy to be its next president and CEO after Mark Murphy retires, according to the Packers.

The team announced their board of director unanimously elected Policy on Monday after a search committee recommended him.

Policy, 53, will be the 12th president in the team’s history. He joined the team as vice president and general counsel in Aug. 2012 and was promoted to officer and general counsel in Jan. 2018.

“I am incredibly honored, excited and grateful to the search committee, the Board, the shareholders and the entire organization for this treasured and one-of-a-kind opportunity,” said Policy in a statement. “I am particularly grateful to Mark for 12 years of mentorship. I am looking forward to building on his leadership and considerable success on and off the field.

“This is the absolute best job in sports. We are the stewards of the most iconic and unique organization in all of professional sports. I am excited to continue to work with so many talented teammates who have ensured the Packers’ consistent success on and off the field. We are the people’s team, and I love being a part of it.”

Murphy will continue to serve as president until he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 70 in July 2025. The Packers said he’ll work with Policy to help transition the role. Murphy has served in the role since 2007.

“Congratulations to Ed on this well-deserved promotion to what I believe is the most unique and meaningful position in the world of professional sports,” said Murphy in a statement. “Ed has been a tremendous asset to the organization during his 12 years here and has been greatly instrumental in our success. His work on Titletown has been particularly impactful. He is highly respected – both in the building and within the NFL. I’ve enjoyed working with him and am confident he will be an excellent steward for the organization.”

The team’s search began in early 2023 and continued into May of this year. It was led by chair Susan Finco and vice chair Dan Ariens. There were around 90 prospects, applicants and referrals.

Policy is a Midwestern native, having been born in Youngstown, Ohio. He's the son of former San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns president Carmen Policy. He practiced law in San Francisco (1994-99) and Cleveland (1999-2001) before getting into football administration.

Over the years, he’s served in various roles in the Green Bay community, including on the board of directors for Brown County Unitied Way, the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation and more. For the Packers, he helped lead the development of Titletown, a 45-acre real estate development just west of Lambeau Field.

Policy said he and his family moved to Green Bay from New York City 12 years ago and has loved raising their family in the city. “This is home,” he said.
